FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Q. How much does a side cost?
A. It varies slightly throughout the year, but we can provide estimates at the time of ordering. Generally the smaller yearling sides are approximately 100kg, which at $14.90/kg works out to be about $1,490 for a whole side. Larger sides (approximately 120kg) work out to be roughly $1,790 for a whole side. This cost includes butchering to your specifications and refrigerated delivery to your door (Greater Hobart and Tasman Peninsula).

Q. Can I buy a smaller quantity of beef or do you only sell as whole butchered sides?
A. We primarily sell our beef as whole butchered sides. This is the most cost-effective way to buy our beef, and many of our customers who buy this way opt to share with friends or family which seems to work well. For those looking to purchase smaller amount, we regularly hold pop-up beef sales at our cellar door. These are run on a first come first served basis, so there is no need to pre-order. For information on upcoming sales, follow us social media for updates or get in touch with us directly and we will let you know our upcoming dates.

Q. How do I secure my order?
A. We require a $200 deposit to confirm your order. The remaining balance will be finalised once the butcher has confirmed the final hook weight of your order.

Q. What cuts are included in a side?
A. Each side contains all the standard beef cuts, and there are multiple processing options available according to your preferences (e.g. roasts, steaks, mince etc.) There are also options for additional extras such as sausages and hamburgers. For more information please contact us and we will send you an order form.

Q. I have never ordered a side of beef before. How will I know what butchering options to select?
A. It really comes down to personal preference. We want you to be able to make the most of our delicious beef, so we would be happy to talk you through the options and help you work out what will suit you best.

Q. Are the sausages and hamburgers gluten-free?
A. The sausages are gluten-free, but the hamburgers contain breadcrumbs, so they are not gluten-free. For full ingredient lists, please see below:
SAUSAGES: Premaydena Hill beef, rice flour, salt, mineral salt (451), preservative (223), hydrolysed vegetable protein (maize), spice extracts, flavours.
HAMBURGERS: Premaydena Hill beef, fresh carrots, mixed herbs, breadcrumbs, parsley, onion flakes, and a burger pre-mix which acts as the binder.

Q. How is the final price set?
A. Prices are calculated on hanging weight of your side of beef, which includes bones & trim.

Q. How much will my order weigh?
A. The weight will not be known until the butcher confirms the final hook weight. We can provide an estimate at the time of order.

Q. How old is the animal?
A. They are yearling cattle (approximately12 months of age).

Q. What is the breed of your cattle?
A. All our cattle are purebred Black Angus.

Q. Is the meat dry aged?
A. Yes, our meat is dry aged for between 10-20 days (depending on the size of the animal).

Q. How does the meat come?
A. The meat is butchered according to your requirements and comes bagged and labelled, so it is ready to pack straight into the fridge or freezer.

Q. How much is delivery?
A. We offer free refrigerated delivery to greater Hobart area, Sorell and the Tasman Peninsula. If you live outside this area and would like to place an order please contact us first to see if we can make other arrangements.

Q. Can I request non-contact delivery?
A. Yes. While we have always prided ourselves on personally delivering our beef all the way to our customers’ kitchen benches, we understand that at this time people are wanting to maintain social distance. We can arrange to deliver your beef to your doorstep to provide non-contact delivery upon request.

Q. How much freezer space will I need?
A. We recommend having a chest or upright freezer with at least 140L capacity (this is what we have at our house, and we can fit most of the beef in the chest freezer with a few additional cuts going into our regular fridge/freezer).
