Where there was once a paddock, there is now the beginnings of the Tasman Peninsula’s first wine processing facility!
Having our own winery on-site will mean our fruit can go from the vineyard to the cellar door without ever leaving the property. That will enable us to pick and ferment our grapes in small batches, when they are perfectly ripe, producing lovingly hand-crafted premium wines.
Not going to lie, kicking off our development with 630 square metre concrete slab sure felt like jumping in the deep end, but we had an amazing team and we are thrilled with the results. Next up - the winery shed! Watch this space…
Bonfire season is back! This weekend we have been celebrating the end of harvest and the completion of the concrete slab for our new winery. There’s still a long way to go in our winery / cellar door development, but we think it’s very important to celebrate the little wins along the way. Progress photos to come this week!

Post-harvest feels π
After a relatively slow ripening season, the last of our fruit has now been hand-picked and is working its magic in the winery. What better way to celebrate the end of harvest than lunch with friends - Premaydena Hill beef paired with Premaydena Hill Pinot noir, of course!

Let the picking begin! These little beauties are destined to become our very first sparking wine - our Premaydena Hill 2022 Blanc de Noir.
Thanks to today’s amazing crew of friends and family, who made a big job seem like a fun morning out.
For those of you who have kindly offered to help pick this year don’t worry, there’s still plenty left to pick for our table wines later this month!

Chardonnay coming along nicely! As we get closer to harvest, we are now leaf plucking the fruit zone on the eastern side of each row. This lets these little babies get some extra morning sun, while still protecting them from wild westerly weather.

The nets are ON! Huge thanks to our awesome net crew - we honestly couldn’t do it without you. It’s a bloody hard job and we should dread it every year, but the laughs and the knock off beers actually make it a day to look forward to!

Hidden treasures in the vineyard. Nice to know we can leave these little guys undisturbed - it’s one of the advantages of picking and pruning all our vines by hand.

Barry the bull - then and now!
At Premaydena Hill, we think good breeding is the first step in producing great beef. All our cattle are purebred Aberdeen Black Angus, and we have spent several years building up a high-quality, genetically diverse herd.
This is our youngest bull - “Barry” - in 2018 and today. Barry was bred through our artificial insemination program using semen from “Irelands Hierarchy”, a highly sought-after bull with strong Te Mania bloodlines.
Selective breeding can be a time consuming exercise, but the rewards for generations to come make it all worthwhile.

The Chardonnay is really hitting its stride this summer! Last year these vines put everything into growth and had hardly any fruit, but this year we’re happy to see they’re cranking out a decent crop. Looking forward to tasting our very first Premaydena Hill Chardonnay in the not too distant future…π€

At this time of year we’re working in the vineyard seven days a week - but it’s not so bad when your lunch break looks like this!

A spot of housekeeping in the vineyard today… the vines are growing faster than we can tuck them in at the moment! π

The sun sets on another year π
Tonight we celebrated by doing nothing - just enjoying some quiet family time and making some new resolutions for 2022. Some are realistic, some less so… but we love a bit of optimism! Wishing everyone a safe and happy year ahead.

Tonight is our long awaited Premaydena Hill staff Christmas party π₯³πTime to reflect on the wins, the losses and the year that was!

Harvest time! π§ It was a ridiculously wet spring this year so we’ve been a bit nervous about our garlic going soggy. We don’t usually pull them up this early but with 20-40mm rain forecast for later today we’re not taking any chances! Plus, they look ready to eat, don’t you think?

We sell sides of beef direct to the public regularly throughout the year; with most orders being filled without ever being advertised. If you would like to be kept up to date with beef availability we recommend joining our mailing list (via the “beef” page on our website - link in bio).
Orders have now closed for 2021. We look forward to bringing more delicious grass fed beef to your plates in 2022!

BIG NEWS! We are pleased to announce that after much hard work behind the scenes, we have recently obtained a planning permit for our new cellar door and winery development.
This project will involve conversion of the original 1910s farm cottage into a cellar door; as well as construction of a 50 tonne winery, a new residence, and two agricultural sheds to support our growing beef and vineyard businesses. We are excited to embark on this next chapter and can’t wait to welcome you all up here for a glass of wine with a view!

Home sweet home π
This humble little cottage has stood on the hill, almost unnoticed, for over 100 years. If walls could talk she would have some stories to tell! Watch this space as we start work her next chapter, as the Premaydena Hill cellar door, in 2022.

New kid on the block!
The Peninsula might not be the first place that comes to mind when you think of Tassie wine, but this region has been quietly producing exceptional fruit for many years.
Thanks to our friends at Norfolk Bay, @bangorshed and @saltwaterriverwines for their support and encouragement over the last three years.

Spring grass on Premaydena Hill π
This is one of our six hay paddocks. Each Spring we lock them up for about three months to grow nice long grass for hay, which is put into round bales and stored away for the next Winter. That way we can feed the cattle all year round on our own grass, even when it’s too cold for it to grow.
